Sacramentalized But Not Evangelized
Sacramentalized but not Evangelized
by Eusebius Stephanou

The chapters of this book represent some of the most Spirit-anointed writings of Archimandrite Fr. Eusebius Stephanou in his passionate desire to restore the lordship and preeminence of the Lord Jesus Christ in the institutional Orthodox Church. This is the sixth book he has authored on the subject of Orthodox spiritual renewal.

Stephanou reminds us that the Church is the Bride of Christ that is being prepared in this last hour to receive her divine Spouse for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

This priest-turned-evangelist fervently cautions the reader of the danger of institutionalizing the Church and treating the sacraments as if they work like religious magic. He points out that only re-evangelizing our people can serve as an antidote to crude sacramentalism and religious legalism that currently banish the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit in the Church.

This is not merely another book on Orthodox faith. This new book, like his previous ones, can be unsettling to those who are content with religious formalism and routine Orthodoxy.

When you are reading the writings of this priest, you know instinctively you are in touch with a man called by God to fulfill a prophetic ministry. He blows the trumpet in Zion and calls God's Orthodox people to repentance before it is too late, and "in the spirit and power of Elijah" he warns them that "the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"

ABOUT STEPHANOU

A former professor and sub-dean at the Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline, MA, this priest is called by many in the Greek Orthodox Church "a pioneer in Orthodox renewal." He has been actively engaged in a full time outreach of Orthodox Evangelism for the past thirty-nine years.

Obviously, renewal is not a casual pastime, or simply a subject of academic interest. Father Eusebius Stephanou has been literally consumed with Christ and spiritual awakening. He has given up opportunities for climbing the ranks of the Church, and on his own volition has been off the Church payroll since 1968 when he embarked on this ministry, walking off the beaten path of the priesthood.

Compelled by his sense of divine calling, he has been sounding the wake-up call with personal conviction and candor. This labor of faith has been a passion for him. He has paid the price for his holy boldness. Members of the Church hierarchy at one time who were showing their displeasure toward his renewal activities are now sending donations for the support of the St. Symeon the New Theologian Renewal Center in Miramar Beach, Florida which he opened in 1989.

YET ANOTHER BOOK

Another book, Sounding the Trumpet in the Orthodox Church, will be coming off the press within the next few months. It promises to be a powerful sequel to Sacramentalized But Not Evangelized. See a complete list of books authored by Stephanou.

COMMENDATIONS

The late Archbishop lakovos once wrote about this controversial priest the following: "Your literary productivity places you, Father Eusebius, among the priests of the Archdiocese of whom we are truly proud. We value your theological competence and energy. Books that are written with such zeal, beauty and authority, as yours, offer a great service to the Archdiocese of America."

Metropolitan Maximos of Pittsburgh calls this courageous warrior of the faith "an outstanding preacher of the divine word and a Spirit-filled priest."

His Grace the Rt. Reverend John, former Bishop of Atlanta and currently Titular Bishop of Amorion believes "Father Eusebius is a faithful liturgist and an inspiring preacher. He was a role model for us seminarians, as assistant dean and as my professor at the Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline, Massachusetts. His demeanor, humility, charismatic enthusiasm and availability in ministering at the St. Photius Shrine was an inspiration to everyone."

Recently, this word was received from his local superior, Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta: "My congratulations to you, Father Eusebius, on the 50th anniversary of your ordination to the Holy Priesthood. May our Lord always bestow upon you His infinite Grace and unfathomable wisdom! As a token of my love for your Renewal Ministry, I am enclosing a personal donation."
